Changing Bits

I'm changing Freckles' bit to see if he responds better to a different type. I am seeking opinions from you all to what type your horse responds best in. There's not much different in them, but what the heck hey?

This is what I was riding him in:



And this is what I have changed him to:



So, as you can see, there is not much different, so just your opinions basically.

So the second one is like a half-cheek snaffle?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the fulll/half cheek part just to keep the bit from sliding through the horse's mouth?

I think it helps turn the horse's head. But im not sure
