Circle Y Flex2 trail saddle

Hi all,

I am seriously considering purchasing a Circle Y Flex2 trail saddle. I am currenly using a FQH tree and 7" gullet saddle on him, but it's a touch wide and slips back. So, I am looking at a Flex tree saddle to fit him better. Here's the problem. I had heard that a flex tree saddle shouldnt be used by anyone over 200lbs. Has anyone heard this before? What are your thoughts on flex tree saddles, are they really worth the extra $? Do they hold up well? Thanks!

Flex Trees do not flex in a way to fit wider Horses.

As far as the over 200lbs. That is pretty much true, but one must take into account a soft rider that weighs 250lbs puts less pressure on a Tree than a rider of 150lbs. That is a very bouncy and rough rider

The new flex tree so far has held up well, much better than the original circle y flex tree.

I briefly owned a beautiful Reinsman flex tree. I weighed about 210 at the time. The horse never had a problem with it but it killed MY back. Not sure why. I had to get a steriod shot in my back to heal from trying to ride in that saddle. I really, really wanted it to work out. :(

The lady I sold it to loves it and doesn't have any problems with it to my knowledge.

So I don't know why, if it was my weight or what (I kind of doubt it) but I personally had posture problems in a flex tree.

Also, it's been my non-scientific observation that flex trees are less stable on round shaped or overweight horses. They seem to hold well to horses with good withers that are not overly round. The reason I say that, besides my own experience, is I know of a couple that have matching flex trees (I think those are Circle Y's) and the seem to have problems with saddle roll.

But you know, a lot of people love them and you might too. I have just gone back to traditional trees myself.

I am currently trying to sell my Circle Y Alabama Trail Gaiter with the regular Flex2 tree. I love the saddle and it fits all my horses great - from the huge 16 hh mft to the rotund 13.3 mft pony. I just bought a new Circle Y barrel saddle and have too many saddles!

I have a Circle Y Flex tree trail saddle. At first it didn't seem to fit my wide mare that well, but then it seemed to adjust to her. It is a great saddle. It is very comfortable and cushiony. If I had a criticism of it, it would be that it comes up a little too high in the front, making forward seat positions ackward. As far as slipping and turning, it doesn't. I put it on a horse that is thinner than my horse. I didn't realize that the cinch was not snug enough. After riding, I realized that the cinch was hanging so loose that you could easily put two hands under it. The saddle stayed right with the horse. Granted, the horse does have nice withers, but it still speaks well for the saddle.

I am not using it right now because I am using an endurance saddle just because it is so easy to throw up on the horse.
