    Normally, I just brush off the inside with a stiff brush and periodically take the straps off and wash them as needed.

    At the end of every winter (when it is time to put the blanket away for the year) I'll put it in my bathtub, wash it by hand and then hang it out to dry on the fence outside.

    You can also take them to the laundry mat and put them in the industrial size washers - just be careful because it can ruin the waterproofing if you use the wrong soap.

    I wash the blankets before they get to the point of 'gross'. Some horses that is weeks, some can wear for months. All of our horses that are blanketed do own a minimum of two blankets.

    We have no snow and temps in the 30's. (near 50 yesterday). Blankets are getting a more frequent washing since there is no snow to keep them clean when the horses lay down for their sun naps.
