Corking

I haven't corked in a long time, since I rode h/j and my coach did everything for me. So I basically have no idea.

Now, I am corking my horse for turnout and I'm wondering what corks you recommend, how you boot when you are corking for turnout and if walking on corks in and out of the barn and in the stall requires any special considerations?
I plan on talking to my farrier and vet when they are out for the shoeing. If I can find the corks I want, or if my farrier has some I'll probably be using small (1/4"-1/2") borium tipped screw in corks. Thoughts?

Thanks!
