Cotton blanket-sheet?

I was given a kinda heavy 100% cotton sheet, not waterproof. I was just wondering what it would be used for? A cooler? A blanket liner? It seems too heavy to be used as a sheet for shows I think.

Thanks!

A sheet as you describe is used for cool days or nights when to warm for a blanket but to cool to leave uncovered if you are trying to discourage winter coat growth.
Sheets can be great for trailering in winter...trailers can be to warm for their stable blanket but you need something to keep the chill off.

Think of it as a light jacket you would wear before breaking out the heavier winter coat...same kind of idea for the horse.

A sheet can also be used as a layer under a winter blanket to add extra warmth for those horrible zero degree nights everyone sometimes has...like putting another blanket on your bed to stay warm... so goes it for the horse too.

Irish Knit Anti Sweat Horse Sheets by Derby Originals

It is the exact same thing as the link I posted above. So an Irish knit anti sweat sheet.

So it can be used as a cooler, also?

If it is a closed weave it should work.
These hold water and water makes them cold & damp, chilled so be careful. They can also get heavy with the added moisture and stretch out of shape if not careful. Make sure it dries fully before folding and putting away or they do mold and smell icky...

I see my friends use these after giving a bath in springtime...draft free and the sun helps to warm & dry the horse and sheet.

Only line dry your blankets and sheets...most horse stuff will shrink out of shape and get lumps in the blanket warmth filling material from the dryer after cleaning.

The one you have posted the link to is primarily designed for bug control on the horse. But like what the above poster had said they need to stay dry for they can warp out of shape if wet and never put into a dryer.

I use light sheets to keep the horse clean if I am showing (otherwise I don't blanket) many times pll will use sheets between the horse and heavier blankets or quilts to keep the heavier blankets cleaner (light sheets are easier to wash). Some Saddlebred ppl use them underneath tail set harnesses to thwart hair ruffling and rubbing from the sets. Some do use them as light "jackets".
