The one you have posted the link to is primarily designed for bug control on the horse. But like what the above poster had said they need to stay dry for they can warp out of shape if wet and never put into a dryer.
I use light sheets to keep the horse clean if I am showing (otherwise i dont blanket) many times pll will use sheets between the horse and heavier blankets or quilts to keep the heavier blankets cleaner (light sheets are easier to wash). Some Saddlebred ppl use them underneath tail set harnesses to thwart hair ruffling and rubbing from the sets. Some do use them as light "jackets".
