Custom Butet

Has anyone ordered a custom Butet? I'm seriously considering it. I have a flat backed 17H hanoverian, and always though the French saddles could be hard to fit with wider horses. I am preferable to riding in a French saddle, but fitting Zee is more important. The new Butets have six different panels to choose from, various tree widths, and a new FB2 tree that is supposed to be designed for warmblood backs. I just got a used extra wide Butet on trial that I hope to ride in tonight to see how it fits him.

Please share any experiences you have had with the company, the saddles, and custom fittings!

I tried Butet once and frankly it felt like sitting on board. However number of people I know of have it and like it.

The older Butets are a lot like older Stubbens...Hard as a rock! The new ones (in the last 5-10 years) are super soft with a nicely padded seat.

Agreed, I am not a fan of older Butets. The newer ones are much more comfortable. I'd also check out Antares, they have some really custom combos and I believe CWDs and Devoucoux do too. It's interesting that you think French saddles are harder to fit with wider horses. I've always thought they tend to run a bit wide and my friend's (older) butet is pretty narrow!

Good point, upnover. Most people in a very fancy hunter/jumper barn in my area have Antares, and some Butet. I believe they run about the same in price (I may be wrong though).

I have been riding in a friends Butet and I love it. Hers is a 2010. I am now in love with the saddle and having a hard time wanting to purchase some other kind! My horse is narrow and her saddle fits my horse great with a regular tree.
I was told that Antares seem to be made with a bit wider tree. I think that if your horse in comfy with the butet than they should be able to fit with the proper tree!
Best of luck!

Argh! Well, I tried a used extra wide Butet last night that rode like a dream but was too wide for the boy. Oh. My. Goodness. Extra deep seat, front and rear blocks, flap was a little long but I don't know how I'll ride in my other saddle while I continue to saddle shop. There was NOTHING like that Butet! It was an '08. The new ones have definately come a long way... I'm going to demo a new one with a wide tree and see how that fits, I'm also going to try the Antares Hampton Classic to see if I can save a few bucks. Otherwise, I might just order a new one that is fitted to him. I have a hard time spending the money on a used one that isn't perfect when "for just a few dollars more!" I can get a custom one made that I know is a perfect fit... God forbid Zee is in anything less than perfect! LOL! Oh, my fiance hates me...
