Deciding on a Saddle Pad to Get

Just wondering if you have any suggestions on saddle pads. I need a good saddle pad to barrel race in. I want a pad that is good quality and light weight. I am looking for just a plain black one. I was thinking about one of these two. Had an experience with them?

Barrel Racer Tack Store: Charmayne James SMx Air Ride Barrel Pad (Ortho Sport)

This one in lime zebra.
Barrel Racer Tack Store: Sensorflex Classic Felt Pad Zebra

CONTOUR FELT Pad.

Any others that you would reccomend? I haven't tried any of these pads so any information you have about them would be great!

Well, color is just personal preference. But, I personally think saddle pads are an example of how you can sell anything w the right marketing. If your saddle fits well, then a blanket or "pad's" only function should be to protect the fleece from sweat and hair. I get thin soft wool or wool/cotton blend blankets, doublers...but singles are fine, too. If I want padding to make up for a saddle that is too big, I use a thicker wool pad (the kind w the leather sides). They aren't cheap but they are often no more or even less than the "latest and greatests", but they last forever....right through the next "latest thing" in saddle blankets. Just my .02 worth.
Wallaby likes this.

There is just as much horse sense as ever, but the horses have most of it.

Does it slip at all? My horse doesn't sweat but he has weird, fine, slippery hair. That is the problem I have with my pad now.

The Charmayne pads are thin just so you know, so make sure your saddle fits very well. I like the felt wool pads like the Impact Gel pad.

It needs to work for your horse, your saddle and your budget - time budget as well as $.

The first pad will dry out the quickest after a use. The second and third pads are going to hold the moisture and scent.
