Different Saddles

Does anyone have pics of saddle differences. Western is all I ride. I have 3 saddles of my own but really don't know the difference of full quarter horse bars or whatever there is out there. I've been riding for years and this is the first time asking this. I guess the reason is because yesturday I tried to set my saddle that is supposed to be FQHB or however its called, on my yearling just to see how she'd handle it. The damn saddle wouldnt sit right at all. Where the saddle sits normally on the shoulders, (dont know what the part is called) was way too narrow for her. Tried to move the saddle back to see if it fell into place,,, not. So, now I would like to figure out what all these different saddles mean. Can't just slap a saddle on her like I thought. Thanks for your help guys.

Sounds pretty familiar. I have also found out that even though there are guidelines for the measurements of each (SQHB, FQHB, etc) each brand seems to make up their own definitions, and everyone doesn't know how to measure the gullet or anything else, for that matter. Some brands run narrower, and some wider. I have been looking, and am learning a lot. I am convinced that the only way to really know is to try one.

Could you possibly get a picture of the saddle you are talking about on the filly? I am having a hard time picturing what issue you are having and where in the world it could possibly be too narrow for her.

I think they have semi and regular QH bars reversed. Semi is for the more narrow horse, QH is for the average horse (of today), and Full QH is for the wide body or mutton wither horse.

I could try and get a pic but i'm just starting her with something on her back and she wont stand still yet. I can get a pic of the saddle and put a tape measure in between the gullet. Like I said I have two other saddles but until I sack her out a little more I am not going to put a saddle on her yet. Its not that important. Plus, if she is wide now will she change size when she's 2 or 3? I mean right now, she's the gangly type and not well excersized so she's kinda porky. Heres my other question. On my saddle I want to find the leather straps for my stirrups so I can bring them up more. Right now there are nylon straps on there and its to the last hole. Its kinda difficult to poke a hole thru nylon. I want leathers. I tried looking on ebay and I can't find anything. Thank you Northernlights for the link to that website. Very helpful:)
