Do highland ponies need travel boots?

Me and my mum share a 14.2hh highland pony and were wondering if he would need to wear travelling boots to travel. He is quite a steady pony but we have been told that travelling boots can cause distress at times. I also wondered whether bandages would be better?x

I no longer boot or bandage for traveling, I think far to often it is to make the owner feel better rather than any benefit to the horse.

I never use boots for travelling for any horse.
