I got the cinch strap because it felt like the back of the saddle was flipping forward when we were going down an extremely steep hill. Red is really high in the backside so it just felt like it was flopping up forward - not sliding forward. Hope that made sense!

It was raining this afternoon so I wasn't able to get pictures today. I did measure the gullet of my saddle and it was 5". My husband's Billy Cook 1688 was 6".

QOS, I don't think you are measuring the gullet in the right place. Just as a rule of thumb, it should be measured across the opening at the level of the conchos. 5" is a pony saddle and I don't believe a Billy Cook ever came in such a narrow gullet. It's a common mistake, just remeasure them.

LOL will do at the top of the conchos!!! Red's saddle is certainly not a pony saddle - my fat rear wouldn't even begin to fit in that!

These are pictures I took of Red with his saddle without the pad. Any help appreciated on whether this saddle fits or not.

One shot is of Red's back from standing behind him on a stool. LOL I am sure he thought I was a lunatic today.
