Question Do you prefer leather or nylon halters?

So I'm going to Dover Saddlery to pick up a few things (one being a French link d ring, thanx PunksTank!!). I want to pick up a new halter for Finn. He has a purple(lol I know what your thinking!) halter and lead rope from tractor supply that's fine and works great but I want to get a back up halter. I was thinking a leather one that I can use for shows(I'm also getting those fleece coverings that go on the halter, the "shipping halters" ,I think he would look so cute in that, so I'm getting it for trailering purposes lol). But before I lay down some money for a nice leather one, I was it worth it?

So I want you guys to tell me your good and/or bad experiences with leather halters and if they're worth getting or if I should just buy a new nylon halter.

Again, do you prefer nylon or leather halters and why?

Tell me everything you know about each. Put as much info as possible!

Green Broke
For shows ? Yes I would get leather or actually probably black or dark brown biothane,
For actual use ? Nothing beats plain old cheap nylon. If it is going to be left on in the fields get a breakaway type

No it's off in the fields.

What's biothane?

Yes I was going to use the leather one mainly just for shows but some use. Again though, I was going to use those fleece coverings for trailering and then just put on the leather one when I get there.

Thanx for commenting!

I found some cheap leather ones at schneiders for under $30. Most of the good nylon ones cost almost $20 so I thought I got a great deal. These aren't halter show quality leather. The crown, nose and cheeks are padded and they're so soft. I just couldn't resist how fancy they looked and have now bought one for every horse.

If you want to have a leather one for special use, I say go for it.
