Jumpers, yes. Hunters....not sure if the color will be acceptable, but make sure you don't use a flash noseband, as they're illegal.

In Hunters you are only allowed to use a "conventional" noseband.
Most of what you see in dressage, jumpers is not permitted.

If all you have is a noseband with drop attachment, just remove the strap and it becomes "legal".

Brown is the color of choice, but if you have black and only black...as long as it meets the "legal" requirements of the class it should be allowed past the "IN" gate.

Rule of thumb in colors is...
    Black is dressage.
    Brown is Hunter.
See more brown than black in jumpers too that I last saw.

Black is not favored in the Hunter ring....

If you are showing, read your prize list {class offerings booklet} for the show rules of tack allowed.
If it isn't listed call the show secretary and ask your questions...you will get a answer on whether your equipment is allowed or not.

As far as I know black is legal in the hunter ring (though I've never looked into it). But it will be frowned up since the hunters is very political. And yes people can say "Well a good judge won't care" but with hunters they will. Especially if you're showing rated.

ETA Black is making a somewhat comeback in the jumper ring
