Dressage stirrup leathers question! I need advice on length :)

So I bought a used HDR saddle over the weekend and I need to buy leathers for it. From what I have read 60" is standard for a dressage saddle for an adult, but it says of your shorter you may want a 56 or 58.(Dover website) How short is "shorter"? Most leathers only seem to come in 54 and 60 in black. Any help is appreciated.

I am a 5"5 and my inseam is a little less than 32" and my arm pit to finger tip is 24" if any of that helps.

I am 5'2" and I use 54" leathers on the last hole on my dressage saddle, but it can vary depending on the position of the stirrup bar I think. You may be able to have someone measure from the stirrup bar to your ankle bone (x2 since leathers are a loop), then add a few inches extra so you have something left to tuck in the keeper.

EDIT: By last hole, I mean the shortest one. 54" is still almost too long for me.

I would suggest borrowing some from a friend for a ride, seeing what hole you wear them on, measure the leathers, and buy that length if you like it. Go longer if you're on one of the first holes, and shorter if you're on one of the last holes.

Get a leather hole punch so you can make custom adjustments.

I would recommend the 54". I am 5'9", I ride with a long leg, so I ride in 60" but they are on the middle to shorter holes. Shorter people riding in my saddle often must wrap the leathers around a few times to be able to ride in my stirrups.

Also I am riding a pretty green horse at the moment. I don't like the peacock stirrups very much, but has anyone ever rode in any safety irons like these?

Did you feel more secure or just annoyed you were having trouble picking up the stirrup?

Safety irons are never a bad thing. I have ridden with them many times, and had to use the safety feature as well. They make a difference, and I never felt a huge difference(if any).
