Dumb Question about Rope halter

Ok, this is stupid but I cannot get it right. How do you tie the knot on a rope halter? No matter how I tie it, if he pulls back at all.....it loosens... which really isn't helping me teach him to give to pressure. Especially when tied, he has a bad habit of pulling back HARD sometimes when he feels pressure when tied. I've asked my friend to explain/show, but she cannot really explain well, or I'm an idiot and cannot get it? hehe Alright, thanks in advance.

Tying the latch knot
Bring the tie strings through the back of the loop. Hold your fingers below the loop, bring the strings around the back of the loop, through and under the strings. This is the best way to tie the latch knot. It won’t come loose and it will come apart easily when you go to take the halter off.

Thanks for the pictures, I was getting ready to write this lengthy explanation. Pictures are worth a thousand words! :D

Line art Line

The idea here is NEVER to tie the poll strap up around itself because the knot could cinch tight under pressure and be very difficult to remove. By tying around the eye, you can always slide the eye back up to loosen things if the horse pulls and the knot gets tight. Hope this helps.

No worries. I had never had a rope halter until just a few years ago. I had always had the nylon with the buckle and my Dad had to teach my how to tie it. LOL. :)

And Dumas, I started out writing this long confusing explanation. Then I re-read it and I was like "Ok, that makes no sense at all" so I deleted it all and was lucky to find some pix.

Tigerstripes, Stacy Westfall has these funky little clippy things on her website and they're not terribly expensive, They're metal clips that you put on your rope halter and you never have to re-tye it. Just use the hook.

Scroll down and they are the 2nd item on the page. :D

Thanks for posting that Dumas! I'm a huge fan of a rope halter. I've seen things similar to this, but they all looked very weak...and that defeated the purpose of why I use a rope halter. I've had a couple (and seen a lot) of normal halters break at differenet places where the metal pieces join the nylon pieces. I may try this one though.

Orangetictac (those are my favorite tic tacs )

If you happen to try them, would you mind giving us a "product review" of them... I've been interested but never bought them for fear of breakage.
