Easy change gullet system....1X vs. XL?

Hi I was wondering if anyone has come across this issue. My horse needs the white XL gullet for the wintec system. I found a "Wide" system (same brand and all) but it has four extended gullets all varying degrees of wide. I was wondering if anyone noticed a difference between the XL and the 1X that is found in this "wide" system? I can get the whole "wide" system for 15 bucks, and it will cost me 25 for just the Wide in the regular system, so if I can save on the cash I will do it.

I doubt my saddle has enough flex for the largest sizes since it says you need a special wide saddle, but I can't see there being much difference between the XL and the 1X...right?

Any feed back would be appreciated!

I may be wrong, but I believe the "wide" line of wintec saddles is built to handle those super wide plates and that the tree itself is wider. The regular saddles may not be able to go wide enough for them. :/

Thank you. I decided to risk it and try the 1X...and it works just fine....fits her very well too! I certifiably wouldn't recommend trying the put the wider plates in the standard Easy Change saddles, but the 1X replaced the XL quite well. =)

Just for info, I came across the same issue just this morning so had a look at the plates.

The Wintec Wide plates start at 2XW (ie 1" - actually 2cm) and go up in tree-width increments, 2XW, 3XW, 4XW. If your horse is a true XW you may have issues with the saddle rocking at the base of the withers if you're using a tree-width wider than he/she needs, unless you pack the front or have extra flocking added.

There again, you may not. So much depends on the horse :)
