Question Endurance Saddle Fit???

I took an Abetta Endurance out on trial today and I am not sure if it fits or not. As you can see by the pic of my horse's back, he is built downhill-ish. Does this saddle fit alright?

I would say it does not really fit. Ideally there should be at least another inch and a quarter between the withers and the gullet, and that's while you're in the saddle. If you sat in that saddle, it looks like it would be right on top of the withers.

If your looking for a synthetic with some wither clearance, try a bighorn. They generally have a good clearance for any horse.

The angle of the bar looks good against your Horse, I do not see it digging in like a too wide saddle would. Abetta's are known for very little wither clearance, as long as when you are sitting on the Saddle and the bottom of the pommel does not contact the top of the wither, I would say that Saddle will work fine.

.

It did not budge at all when I sat in it. Is it just me or would the saddle be much better off with a thinner pad?

Not really, a Western Saddle generally is designed to use a 3/4" or 1" thick pad.

Wintecs also have little wither clearance. This Abetta has a shorter gullet
