Picked this up at Dover yesterday, I can try it out for 5 days. Wasn't my first choice, but everything else they had in that shop had way too much angle to the panels near the cantle for him. Not crazy about how far forward the flap is for his shoulder. Thoughts on the fit otherwise?
Nevermind... figured it out for myself after looking at the pictures and it looked like it was bridging. Went back down and tried in on again and sure enough its bridging, so its going back!
well, bridging is somehting that's really hard to SEE in a photo. my first thought was that if you'd tapped it back a half inch, the fit was pretty nice.
It looks like the tree-point agle at the front is too narrow for him. your pommel is up too high, and the panels at the rear look like they'll dig into his back, because the saddle is tipped back. Do I see the Easy-Change logo up there under the pommel? Put a gullet-bar in there that's one or two sizes bigger. That would help the bridging as well. And as tiny said, tap it back at least an inch.
But I also see a Cair logo and those things are notorious for bridging. My horse has a flat back and one saddle I tried was flat, yet the center of the cair still bridged! =/
Bates Caprilli/Close Contact? You can't tell if a Cair saddle is bridging or not unless someone actually sits on it, because of the way the airbags react to pressure. They're always a difficult adjust for this reason. Again, because of this you really need to take the gullet out and check whether that's correct rather than rely on judging fit from how tight the panel feels - it moves around too much to be a reliable guide.
One potential issue with the CC type saddles is the points sit quite high off the horse and the panel is also fitted high up in the channel, which doesn't suit some high withered horses, despite the curved tree shape. It also means you can fit some horses a half-tree narrower than the GP version, which seems to me to depend on their conformation just below the wither and above the back of the shoulder.
