Flex trees?

My horse is nearly impossible to fit...I was at a tack store and she recommended I try a flex tree. She was saying how it fit everything from her Percheron to her Tb. I've been reading a bit on them and can't decide whether or not to take the plunge and try one out. They don't have any at the store I was at, so I'd have to buy online, which I'm not to keen on but I'm willing to try it out last resort. I've brought home multiple saddles to try and none fit him...the one I have been using is too small for me but was the only one that fit him so I have been using it, but he has recently outgrown it. I do not have a couple thousand laying around to get one custom made so that is out of the question. I'll just be riding him bareback in the meantime.

What are your opinions/experiences with flex treed saddles?

Western Flex Tree's flex from a front quadrant to a rear quadrant on a diagonal for a somewhat more comfortable ride, but so does a high quality pad, imo.

Flex Trees do not allow for the fitting of different width Horses, that is a 100% fairy tale.

There are a few import flex trees with a terrible gimmick in them that says they allow for fitting different width Horses, they are rare and not sure if they are sold anymore, but if you see one RUN.....

The Problem with most off the shelf Saddles or Saddles in Stock at a Store is, they come in two sizes Medium or Wide.... there are over 8 major Trees sizes and 5 minor sizes needed to fit every variety of Horses and Confirmations of even the same Breed of Horse, example, there are 3 Trees used too fits Drafts, 3 to fit QH's, 2 to fit Arabs, 2 to fit Gaited, etc.....

Gimmicks, and stop listening to anyone that says any saddle will fit all horses. They are either an idiot or a shyster salesperson.
While if I liked a saddle I wouldnt turn down a flex tree it still needs to fit your horse. Think about it. I get a flex tree, put it on a horse and climb my 220 lbs on top of it what is going to happen ? Its going to flex to its open position. Someone 100 lbs ? ,maybe it doesnt flex at all. Point being once you put it on a horse and put your weight in it it will go from zero flex to full flex depending on the load. Either way its basically going to pick a size and stay there. If that size fits your horse great. If it doesnt then your out of luck.

I like this discussion of flex trees:

Checking out a flex tree

This gives how a major company building saddle trees classifies things:
