Girths

Hey everyone!!

I ride english, I have two saddles, each have their own girth.

One is elastic, the whole thing. (it's wintec, I love it)
The other is all leather, no elastic at all.

They're both 48", and both fit to about the same spot on her sides.

Is there a type of girth that is "best"?

I feel like the full elastic one would b better, because there's so much give to it? I've also heard that leather girths are very comfy.

It's a silly question but it just popped into my head

A picture of what your elastic girth looks like would help, I am picturing one long strip of elastic with buckles at the end haha. I feel like a girth should have elastic at both ends because it allows for some give and moves with the horse's barrel. A fleece girth vs a leather girth is going to be entirely up to you and your horse. Some horses get rubs from leather while others are allergic to fleece. I think leather looks nicer in the show ring but that is just my personal opinion. I have both a leather one like this:

and a fleece one like this:

I like showing in my leather one because it looks cleaner but I will usually school with the fleece one.

Wintec Elastic Girth - Horse.com

The whole thing stretches, not as much as the elastic at the ends, but it stretches.

Never used one of those before so I don't know what to tell you about it. I really don't like girths that have no elastic or just have elastic on one side.

I like that it stretches so much I can fit it on lots of horses, haha

I prefer a leather girth with elastic at both ends; it helps equalize the pressure. However, in the winter I'll sometimes use a fabric girth (with elastic) because it's more flexible and isn't freezing cold..
