Arrow Is this a good deal?! Tucker Saddle Question

Hi Everyone,
I am kinda new here, but I've introduced myself some time back when I first started this account - so Hello again!

I have a question..... on a local craigslist, there is a man selling his and his wifes Tucker Saddle. It is the Plantation Trail Saddle (so it says?) ... it is without a horn, and has english fenders. It comes with a Halter/Bridle Combo and Breastplate. He wants $700 for it..... I shouldve added, they used it for 2 trail riding seasons only. Picture looks like it is in good condition, though it's only a picture I see now.

Is that a good deal? I've never paid this much for a saddle before! Need help! :)

Well, I just did a brief online search, which is probably what you should do. That would be your best resource, and, since you have seen the picture, you will be able to tell if that is it or not. However, that does sound like a good price, especially with all the other stuff with it.

I don't know much about their trees and how they run, width wise, but make sure it will fit you AND YOUR HORSE.

I do have a friend who has a couple of Tuckers, and swears by them.

Good luck!

Thanks frank!

I know, I need to figure that part out...... he is an easy fit I know that, almost every saddle I've put on him fits him. Except one, and that was a big old saddle. I wish I could take him with me to try it on! :) I should ask them if they would be willing to take it back within 24 hours if it doesn't fit - good idea.

You're welcome....

But.....I am confused. You posted another thread looking for just what you (found?) were asking about above....and have NO idea the price? Hmmm.

Hi Frank!

Well, I found this saddle on my local craigslist (not the one Remi found for me! That is a different one!) and I know what they go for NEW. BUT, Used is a all new thing.... and I'm not sure if the saddle holds their value or not??

But I thought I would ask if anyone knew about another one, incase of a better deal - I'm always out for the best deal :)

Unless I am totally misunderstanding your question, or maybe curious why it bothers you, don't you look for more than one of the same before you buy at the first place you see? I do, but I'm cheap. Lol

IF the saddle was only used for 2 trail seasons, how hard was it used? I mean, does it still look new, or beat up a bit? Be sure to check the padding underneath also. When did they actually buy it? Were the trail seasons the past couple of years, or were they 5 - 10 years ago? I had paid approximately 1800 for a new one back in April...that included the breast strap and bridle. It fit my horse perfectly; but something about it didn't fit me. I ended up selling it to my friend for 1400 because the tack shop that I bought it from only wanted to give me 1200 for it. I lost a decent chunk on that saddle.

My advice is that if there is anyway possible take your horse, and ask to ride in it for a while. If they have trails on their property ask if you can go on those as opposed to riding in a ring. If the saddle is in good shape, and it fits both you and the horse, I would say that that's a good price.

Good luck in your decision!

Thanks Charl,
Well, from my understanding they bought them a couple years ago new at some horse expo, rode in them for 2 seasons and then now they're for sale because they sold their horses. I wish I knew how to attach a picture here. I'd show you the pictures posted. I'll look them over real good (good thing is, I get to choose from 2 of the same, so I'll pick the one in best condition :) ) what would I look for on the underneath, anything in particular?

That's ashame you werent comfortable with your tucker saddle! What was the style? These are Plantation Trail Saddle w/ English rigging. That is the part I can't make up my mind on....... who wants english rigging on a trail saddle, besides me - obviously?! Lol

I'll try to call them before I go up there tomorrow and see if they still have horse property - supposedly they got out of it, and just have the saddles left. I may be able to take my horse, if I can get friend to take me (she has the trailer!).

It was a Tucker Gen II Cheyenne Frontier. You can go on the Tucker website to look. When you look at the underside, look for wear and tear. Make sure there aren't any rips in the attatched padding...etc.

**Correction on my previous post...I only paid 900 for everything because he gave it to me half off (just checked my receipt). He offered me 1200 on trade to the Circle Y that I have now**

Riverwalk-I am cheap too and always look for the best deal. That is exactly why I suggested you look on the internet. Do your research. You should be able to get an idea of pricing, reviews, etc. Excellent resource.

It would sound to me like you are wanting the HF community to do it for you. Just my impression. This post is fine, but the other one sounds to me like that is definitely the saddle you want and will buy if someone here has one to sell, which I thought was a bit misleading. Just the way it came across to me.

Here is one that I think is what you are talking about, a little older, and SOLD for this price, plus shipping, 10 days ago. Also has pics of condition so you can compare.
Tucker River Plantation Saddle, 16 1/2 inch seat - eBay (item 220663366853 end time Sep-06-10 17:54:48 PDT)
