    Good western saddle finds

I like to browse places that sell used saddles. I had time on Monday and stopped at a pawn shop in town. Found two that were pretty neat. Each for different reasons.

This first is a HH Heiser. It was definitely rode. But I thought the 3/4 single rig was unusual for the plate they had in it. It's original.

This second is just a decent, barely used Colorado. I let all my friends know, but none of us need one. I'm trying not to go back and get it. :) It's going to make someone a good saddle for a long time.

Colorado is still in business. HH Heiser is not. How much is the pawn shop asking for each?

They want $475 for the Colorado. It's on consignment and the guy there said the owner indicated she'd come down to $400. The Heiser had a tag of $150 on it. Don't know if it's a consignment or what or how they'd deal on it.

Your pawn shop is better than ours. I went in a few months ago just to look, and they had an old cheap leather no name saddle with a tag of 350$ on it. NOT. I have got some gems off of craigslist though.

When people are broke they pawn an item. It is a conditional loan with collateral. Repay the loan within the allotted time plus interest and the item is retrieved. But, if the loan isn't repayed within the allotted time, the item belongs to the pawn broker who then attempts to sell it at a much higher price. Pawn shops don't sell goods on consignment. An item cannot be sold until the allotted time is up. The Colorado is well made and if you were interested in buying, $400 is a fair price. I'd grab the HHH just to have it at that price.

Our pawn shops do take things on consignment. The Colorado is a consigned item.

A couple months ago, I picked up a couple mecates that were consigned and gave them as gifts!
