Hackamore in the right place?

I just bought my hackamore, and I wanted to make sure it fit my gelding, and make sure I have the noseband in the right place. I think I got it below the nasal bone, but not positive. Also I wanted to make sure the hack was angled right. It supposed to be at a 45 degree angle right? The chain is already tight (not constricting), I can get two fingers in, and wouldnt want it much tighter. And am I supposed to leave that little cable on? I put vet wrap on the rope, btw. And I havent ridden him in THIS one. I want to make sure I have it in the right spot first.

It looks in the right spot. That cable is to prevent the shanks from coming apart, so leave it.

Remember because the shanks aren't really bent it wont take much pressure at all for that chain to take action. I personally prefer a hack with more curve to the shanks but if you're careful about pressure you should be fine.

That hack doesn't give the horse any warning. It works with a squeezing action. I agree with Poppy about the shanks, the swept back give notice when the reins are lifted.

Hmm...I'll try it in the yard. I'm pretty light handed as it is, but I didnt know what I was looking for in a hack.... My friend recommended getting a little longer shank bc my hands are too light to get his attention. This is what I was riding him in (her hack, with the nylon halter.).

Now I'm scared to used that new hack on him. He is green and he tries his best to do what I ask him. I would like just something to get his attention (not hurt him), so that he realizing I'm asking him to do something.

No huge worries about it tho, I can trade this one in at a local tack shop.

Those two hacks are the same. The straight bar is what matters here. Look for an s hack or something like that. The side pull would probably work good though.

Ok, I didnt buy the little s hack because it said for finished horses.... now I wish I got it... maybe I can trade....

I think most hacks should be used on more finished horses not complete greenies. But do you have that side pull? That would work.

It's in the mail! :) I broke him in a rope halter actually. He take a bit, but he had a rearing problem. Long story, but if I asked him lightly with the rope halter/hack and gave him time to think he progressed wonderfully! No more rearing and he is a pleasure to ride. I laugh at him so much. He is very expressive, and he tries so hard to do what I ask. That's why I just left him in the hack. My mare is in a bit tho. And she has been under saddle since last year. I trust him alot more than her.
