    Check out Pro Chaps...

By far the best half chap I've ever owned/ridden in (yes, I've been notorious to hop on friend's horses at times and must have chaps ;)). They also make full chaps and western chaps... but really, check them out. I love them and they are in the same price range as some of the other chaps listed. They are calfskin leather too! So soft... and conform to your leg. Honestly sometimes they don't even feel like they are there. They are made to pretty much fit everyone, I am a really hard fit because I have weird (tiny) ankles and a decent sized calf so... I really love them. I've had mine for almost 2 years and I am sad to say I don't take great care of them but they are holding up great. When it comes time to replace them I will DEFINITELY be getting another pair. Everyone I know who has a pair of Pro Chaps has no complaints ;)

... on another note, I've heard good things about Tredsteps.

Yeah, the ProChaps look really nice. The two things that are leaning me toward the Tredsteps are:

    1. The snaps at the top and bottom (the problem I'm having with my current ones is them seperating at the tops) and people I know who don't have snaps on the bottom, complain that the zipper comes up, and

    2. I'm worried that the leather would pinch my legs if I used them barelegged during the summer.

You could have snaps put on if they ended up coming up, but mine never did until I had them taken in. They shape to your leg and I loaned them to a friend with significantly larger calves (kicked myself for this) and they stretched. So I just had them move the zipper and take them in.

They are not leather on the underside either ;) I don't know what the material is, but it's not leather. Some kind of lining.

That is interesting to know. I'll check it out. Unfortunately, I don't think the tack shops here sell either brand, so it is sort of going in blind off a website.
