Halter for Showmanship

I'm going to need a halter for showmanship soon, but I don't have a clue what type (brand, color, etc.) to get for my bay filly.

I need something good quality, not cheep, but I can't pay a ton for it.

Can anyone recommend a tack shop please?

Hi hun, If you have an idea of what you would like either my self or nutty saddler am sure will be able to help. Their is many amazing saddlers on the web:) Do you have any ideas on what you would like and what you plan to show in class wise, may give us a little more of an idea on what would suit for the show season. If I can't help I may be able to point you in the right direction and if I can't I am sure nutty would be able to help hun:) Hope that helps

Thanks! I'm looking for a halter to use on my bay filly for showmanship at local/smallish shows. It can't be too pricey, but I don't want junk. I would like it nicer then you would see at most local show, but not a $350+ halter you'd see at the big shows! If I'm going to buy one I think I might as well buy something really nice. And I'm not sure what color to use for her...

Have you looked at tack shops for used ones?

They don't sell used tack (except saddles) at our tack shop, and I'm not going out of town for a while. Good idea though if I don't have one on my next visit to other tack shops.

oh, okay...
You say she is a filly, should we be looking for a yearling halter, cob or normal size?
Also, for a bay I would suggest a deep mahogany color or maybe even black, depending on the horse.

Here is a used one that I found:
It should clean up really nicely with some leather cleaner and toothpaste for the silver. :) It has a simple but nice design that won't go out of style, as some others you might see. The only thing that concerns me is it doesn't say what type of silver it is. As a general rule you want nothing less that montana silver. However, seeing as this one is used and still holds it's value, I assume it is of good quality. This one is a small horse/cob size and they are asking $50 for it at https://www.rainbowsendtack.com/Show...LeadsPage1.htm

Here is another one from the same place. It's a used Billy Royal halter.. (sorry, I know NOTHING about brands!) It's a normal size, asking $150 used. As you can see it definitely needs some cleaning, but it looks soft and the silver is actually of decent quality.

That's just a few, but I hope it gives you some ideas! Happy shopping.

Thanks everyone

AQHA13 - I really like the first one but I think I need an average horse sized halter. Too bad!

Would these look ok on her, or would they look funny?

I think they look good. The first and second one are my personal favorites. :) Then again though, they may look way different when they are actually on her.. :( Shopping online is soo hard! Lol

Hi hun, if you pm I will tailor make you one and you can choose your conchos and brass wear etc. You would be looking at about $190 dependent on what detail you would like. If you email me at coldewol@live.com I will send you some designs as well as a guide on how to measure to get the perfect fit. Speak soon love ikle pickle x
