Hand Painted Horse Tack? What type of Paint?

Hi, I have seen pretty hand painted tack online and at shows. Does anyone know what type of paint to use or the process. I have a bridal that has spots on it and I would like to paint it a little more fun. I am an artist but I don't know which paint would work best on leather.

I think they make a leather paint or dye. You might check your local hobby leather shops or check some online like tandy leather.
