I have the showman long shank rope nose gag bit and it is longer than the old bits I previously used. So I had to put more holes in my headstall but when I did that I created the wrickles around the mouth that's needed but it also made the browband have less area and caused it to pop up and not lay flat against the forehead. Since it is not flat it is causing the ends of the browband to pitch or put pressure around the ears. When riding I notice my mare is shaking her head and I feel as if that is causing it. So I contacted a tack shop and they are willing to make me a custom headstall. Since the headstall attaches to the loops by the rope area should I make the cheeks of the headstall shorter and keep the other measurements the same? What should I do? I like this bit because it keeps my thoroughbred mare controllable during barrel racing. Any help?
