Help Me Choose a Bit :)

My horse is currently ridden in this bit:

He usually does pretty well, but He doesn't bend, and although I know that the bend comes from the leg, I was wondering if there was a better bit to back up the leg. Also, he has a bit of a "steering problem" occasionally, where once he is behind a horse in a lesson or such, he won't turn/circle to gain space, and while I know that this is just his natural herd instinct, I would like to be able to back up my seat and leg aids a bit better.

Would you recommend a double jointed snaffle? With maybe a D-Ring instead of a full cheek?

I use a O and D ring snaffles on my horses with no issues....

The bit you are using is an excellent bit, especially for a horse that needs some reinforcement around the turns.

You haven't mentioned any reasons you feel this bit isn't suited to you and your horse....? I.e. Evasion of the bit, throwing of the head etc etc. The issues you are having under saddle will be corrected with a stronger seat and leg, the bit won't do this for you. A bit won't 'back up' your leg, if you really want to back up your leg try a crop.

The other bits you posted are very good general purpose bits also, but I wouldn't expect to see much of a difference in the way your horse behaves as a result of switching to one of these bits. The french link will be easier on the roof of his mouth and may encourage him to work a little softer however you will lose the steering power provided by the full cheek you currently have. Trial and error, see what works!

I would work on leg and seat aids before I rushed out and changed bits personally.

While I'm not fan of single-jointed bits (nothing wrong with them, just prefer 3 piece) I don't think different bit will help much with your issues (even though I like one from Dover more). Bit doesn't back up the leg and the full cheek is the best bit for steering IMO. You may want to look into specific exercises (like circles, serpentine, etc.).
