help with velvet helmet....

I need some help with childs size helmet...I need to get Sky a velvet helmet for the shows. She has a Troxel size med and dials it to fit and we had a velvet cover but....it looks like crap and I will bite the bullet and buy a velvet show hat. I would like to get it from ebay but the sizes are sooo confusing. How do I measure>>>> What size does a 9 soon to be 10 year old get since they don't dial in the back?? Hellp
