Question Home made saddle pads?

Hey! I was just wondering if anybody has seen/made home made saddle pads. I want to make a seamless ( or close to it) dressage pad, which may be a smidge harder than buying one, but there are none available locally and I'm not the biggest fan of buying anything large online. Also, I was hoping to embroider a design onto to top piece of fabric, so It's visible, but is not all the way through the pad. Any suggestions? I know there is some sort of padding inside the pad, but what? Is there a certain fabric that has ' built in' padding? Thanks!

Making a saddle pad is akin to quilting. Same basic concept and you technically need the right machine and feet to do a decent job. The middle layer of the pad in most cases (or I assume) is batting. You can find this at your local fabric shop. It comes in different "weights"/thicknesses. Basically you sandwich that between two layers of fabric, sew them together like you would a quilt, and then finish it.

I quilt in my spare time. It's exhausting and super time consuming. I've toyed with the idea of making my own pads, however to me its not worth it when I can get a gorgeous white perfectly finished dressage show pad for $20/each online. My time is more important to me then getting frustrated because I can't make a perfect saddle pad.

Good luck! And if you end up making one please post pics!
