Horseshoes, are they "tack" or equipment and why.

I am looking for opinions on whether horseshoes are considered to be horse tack. Any written references would be helpful, thanks.

Not in my eyes.

Tack is more riding equipment whereas shoes are more for supportive purposes and are worn constantly, not just for riding.

Thanks for your reply, I am hoping to find some sort of definitive list of horse tack items, when I search online I get answers ranging from just a few items to almost all horse related items including riding crops and clothing items. Do you know any list of this type?

"Saddles, stirrups, bridles, halters, reins, bits, harnesses, martingales, and breastplates are all forms of horse tack. Equipping a horse is often referred to as tacking up."

From wikipedia

That's a good start.

Also polo wraps, pads, and boots (worn on legs not feet) are tack.

Leadropes are not tack.. as the horse doesn't wear it. But they usually come with halters, which is tack.

As far as Wikipedia goes, horseshoes were listed in the horse tack category until a few days ago, in fact there are some other suspect items listed there as well, would you consider a feed bag to be horse tack?

No.. and I only posted that sentence.. because that's all I consider to be tack.

If you ride, that is. If you drive the horse, then there's a harness and blinders and all that stuff too.
