how do you measure?

So I was wondering how do you measure your horse to fit a western saddle? Like I know I can tell when a saddle fits a horse but what if I can't bring my horse to fit it.

That beautiful moment after you tickle your horse and he follows you around like a dog.

Borrow saddles with a known tree until you find one that fits. Or look here:

Can you not do a loan week to take it home and try it out on your horse?

No I'm actually not looking for a saddle right now but in the future it would be helpful.
