What's the best way to figure out what size cinch you horse needs. I ride western if that helps. Do I just mesure from where it should sit on him, from one side to the other?
If you were to do that, it would be impossible to tighten your cinch because it would wrap all the way around. The way that I do it, I measure from the highest hole on the right, around the horse's heart girth to where it's elbow ties into it's body. This way, I have ample room to create a snug fit when I tighten the girth, but can easily let it down a notch or two if my horse gains weight or it looks too short.
There may be a better way, but that's always how I've done it.
1) borrow several from a friend or friends, see what fits best and then measure it to see what size it is
2) Measure from one of the middle holes on the billet to approximately where your cinch would be if you were actually tacking up, buy whatever measures closest to that measurement.
