How many fingers should fit between a flash noseband?

also, how fingers go between a curb chain? thank you

The flash should be pretty tight. How I do it is get it as tight as I can and then let it down two holes or so (depending on the horse). For the curb chain, I'll secure it to where I think it would fit then pull the bit back slightly and see if it comes in contact with the chin groove. Usually, it comes to about two fingers for me.

The flash is not to be tight. It is meant to quiet the bit in the mouth, not close the mouth. Two fingers. When you bring the bit back, there should be a 45 degree angle to the jaw when the chain is activated.
I hope you're not using a flash and curb bit?

The flash should not be pretty tight, nor should it be tight at all. You should get minimal 2 fingers between the horse and the flash itself.

I cringe to think that horses are going around with very tight flash' sad is that. To know that people misuse this piece of equipment.
