How much is my saddle worth?

I inherited a 17in (if I measured correctly) Syd Hill australian saddle from my aunt who passed away, but I don't really see myself using it much in the future and would like to use the money to put towards a trainer to help me and Apollo. It has a double billet over girth, but one of the billets on the over girth looks like it got ripped off? I'm sure it can be bought new online or in a tack shop so its not a huge deal. The saddle itself was taken care of pretty well. The very bottom flap is a little stiff, but nothing a little oil couldn't fix! How much do you think it is worth?

Well, you'd have to replace that billet. Isn't that a torn billet?

That's a nice saddle. Much better quality than a lot of the crummy Aussie saddles out there. Is 17 inch an english measruement or is it measured like Western saddles? I think it is measured ala English style, but I am not familiar with Aussie saddles. It looks kind of narrow.

ETA No, it does not look narrow. I looked again.

The billet that is torn is on the over girth which is easily removed from the saddle and easily replaced in seconds. It slips right off and can be replaced with a new over girth for about $50. It's not the billet that is attached to the saddle. As for a measurement, I just measured from the center of the front of the saddle to the center of the back and it measured 17inches.

That is one wickedly nice saddle. Can't help you with price, since Aussies aren't popular around here (got mine for $125 because it'd been sitting at the consignment shop for so long...they were originally asking $250). I see the few Aussie saddles around here usually listed for about $400-500 for the Syd Hills and the higher quality ones, but that doesn't mean they're selling for that.

A 17 is about the same as a 15" in western so it will fit a fairly slim rider. I think you will be delightfully surprised that these saddles start at $2300+. Do check the web site.

Well I'm looking to sell it if anyone is interested! I'll make a separate thread in the tack classified section later today. But just pm me with an offer.
