How much is this saddle worth???

I brought this saddle two years ago from a garage sale for $20. It never fitted my horse so I have never used it and have tried selling it many times for different prices but have had no luck.

I am curious as to how much it is worth and I only have a very basic knowledge on saddle value (that is something that is in pieces is worth nothing and something that is shiny and new is worth heaps).

The saddle has been oiled three times since I got it as it was very dry and is being stored in the shed with a proper saddle cover over it to keep dust off it.

It is 17'', wide gullet and has metal plated either side of the front that say "Zaldi" and other writing in Spanish.
That's about as much as I know!

I'm also not sure what type of english saddle it is if anyone knows?

This is a close contact saddle or jumping saddle. It looks pretty ancient and has a lot of scratches and such to prove it. I would probably say you might get $100 out of it, if you're lucky. It's not something someone would compete in anymore.

My best guess would be an older Argentine saddle, worth about $75... The twist is very narrow, and the balance is poor. JMHO

I don't see anyone paying money to actually ride in it, IMHO I wouldn't pay over the 20$ you payed for it. Someone could always be in the market, though!

The saddle has absolutely no use for me as my parents got me a bates all purpose when I discovered this saddle didn't fit the horse. I love my bates saddle! It is the BEST saddle in the world! The fact that I only payed $20 doesn't matter cos its no huge amount of money! So its no loss!

Zaldi saddles were made in Spain and I think they probably still are. They're were decent quality but have never really been a 'big name' brand.


Sorry to disappoint you but there's no way that's a wide gullet, more a medium, if that. From the looks of it I'd say the saddle was probably made in the 1980s.


Worth? We once had a Zaldi dressage saddle which took absolutely ages to sell. It's only really worth what someone's prepared to pay. Best of luck.

Looks like a plain flap AP or eventing saddle to me. (Round cantle, deep seat, big crescent knee rolls.) The Zaldis of that era have more of a TB tree: Narrow & curvy. Old Argentine APs sell for $50 - $75 so maybe up to $150 for that one if you can get the panels looking a little better, cosmetically.

The leather appears to be of a better quality than much of the saddles (except high end) we see today. It is an older hunt saddle. If you have a horse it fits, try it out. You will love the feeling of feeling closer to the horse. I'd put a price tag of $300 and don't tell a soul what you paid for it or how you got it. It's a decent quality saddle.

I wasn't sure what size gullet it had as I have never fitted a saddle to a horse we get saddle fitter's in!

The saddle has no use to us as it is so ancient looking and now days there are much higher quality saddles out there!

It has been slightly eaten by moths on the other side so I might sell it for say $40! I have an old pair of stirrup irons to give away with it as they are no safety stirrup irons so I never use them!
