How much stuff does one horse need?!

I'm moving my horse this week, she's currently living at a relative's place but turned out to be more of a project that we expected, so I'm going to board her at my trainer's place. My relative spent the past week braving the cluttered mess of a tack shed to sort out what all belongs with my horse and dang!

My trainer was out to work with my horse yesterday, saw the giant tarped pile in the pasture my relative set out, was pretty surprised at the size but said no biggie, we'd throw it all in the trailer when she picks up my horse and sort it out after we get settled. Uhm..... I kinda, sorta forgot to mention there are also 2 giant bins in the shed still (filled of course) and 1 in my van (at least it's only half-full) oh and then there's one more at my house, plus 2 more saddles in my garage and since she was working with her yesterday, all that tack hasn't been packed yet.

How does one horse accumulate so much stuff in a single year? I think my horse owns more *stuff* than my kids!

Ha ha I can definitely relate. I know that when I have extra money, my horses are usually the first to reap the benefits. Some new clothes or a new saddle pad? Do I even need to tell you which I'll choose? Also, I'm terrible at throwing stuff out. One rein is broken, but other might still be needed at some point-- even though I have three other brand new sets of reins.. ha ha

Hm, lets see..
Horses 1
Saddles 2
Bridles 4 (Plus 2 extra bits)
Saddle pads 5
Brushes 10
1 bin of cleanser and conditioner for horse
1 bin of cleanser and conditioner for tack
1 bin odds and ends, small stuff (hoof picks, lead ropes, etc)
At least 20 more things on the list I haven't mentioned.
And don't get me started rider apparel, lol

I know how you feel. It is not about what the horse NEEDS, but what the owner WANTS, lol.

1 Horse
Off the top of my head
3 Saddles
5 bridles
12 saddleapds
10 covers
2 brush sets
4 halter and lead rope sets
3 breastplate and martingale sets
Lots of stuff

In my defence I did just have to get my Old Boy put down so that explains the horse to tack ratio. :$

For one horse I have:

4 rugs
2 saddles
3 bridles
2 bits
1 set of bell boots
1 set of splint boots
3 saddle blankets
1 breastplate
1/2 a grooming kit - it has a hoof pick, curry & dandy brush and a comb... the rest was stolen :(
1 set of fluffy exercise boots
1 pair of 'spare' reins that are almost broken
4 whips - 2 crops, 1 dressage, 1 lunge
1 spare halter - should be 2 but someone lost one of them on me
2 pairs of spurs that I never use
4 buckets - 3 have holes in them but only one hole isn't big enough for it to be useless

That's just off the top of my head... Pretty sure that I only use maybe 1/4 of that stuff since most of it's too big for him or it's broken and I just haven't thrown it out...
I want to know why we hang on to things that are broken or don't fit our horses, or stuff that we just plain don't use.

1 pair of Bell Boots
1 pair of open-front Splint boots
1 pair of closed front splint boots

Just take the stuff you really need. And stuff you don't want or can't really use, put on consignment. The the stuff you want to keep but can't use right away. Like blankets, or saddle pads. Keep somewhere at your house in one place so you can easily find them.
I don't even own a horse anymore and I still have a ton of stuff

Well I have 2 horses...
3 saddles (Dressage, western, aussie)
4 bridles
3 english saddle pads
3 western saddle pads
3 breast collars
4 winter blankets
2 rain sheets
2 misc blankets
2 sets of polo wraps
1 set of sport boots
And probably more then a dozen other things that I can't think of anymore, not including halters (3) brushes (too many) and basics like that.
