I am looking to see if this saddle could fit my mare; she is 15 hh, Bashkir Curly x Arabian. She is quite narrow (usually a semi-QH bar) but because she is gaited her shoulders do need some extra room. I think this saddle fits her fairly decent. She seems to have good room in the shoulder area, and I can run my hand underneath even with it cinched. However, I would like outside opinions. I haven't ridden in it yet, so I haven't noticed her reaction with it on. Please give me honest critiques. Thanks!
I first thought that too, but there is two to three inches between her shoulders and the pommel, and I think the panels fit her back decently. There also seems to be plenty of room for her shoulders. The girl that owns it used it on a large Appaloosa x TB and her mother thought it was a smudge too narrow for him. I haven't had a chance to see what it will be like with my weight added to the equation. That probably won't happen till this weekend. Posted via Mobile Device
endurance saddles arnt supposed to fit like a western saddle, What looks like enough room western, isnt enough endurance. I went back and looked again. Looks to wide.
endurance saddles are menat to have a couple inches more clearance at the withers and have a good air channel down the center of the back. Assuming you have a real endurance saddle, Some endurance saddles, ( I would suspect the Big Horn) arnt really endurance saddles and are simply a western saddle without horn.
I think that the Big Horn is in fact considered a endurance saddle, but I could be wrong. With the air channel underneath it sounds more like a English type saddle fit. Posted via Mobile Device
I don't really care for the treeless; I rode in them quite a bit on a friend's Icelandics (the same friend who gave me this saddle to try, in fact lol) but I don't think I would use them on my mare in particular. Posted via Mobile Device
