need advice on aussie saddle/size/store

I am thinking of purchasing an aussie saddle. I am a new rider.
The horse this is for usually uses a full quarter bar western saddle with a seat size of 16.
If an aussie saddle says medium tree should I assume that is a semi quarter horse and I would need one that says wide tree?

When I emailed one store they said our mediums are meant to fit the average quarter horse...

Secondly,
I am really on a tight, tight budget right now so I was looking at a couple that were around 250.00 would these be ok? I am a heavier rider and do not want to get something that would not fit or support me and thus be hards on my horse

Anyone ever bought online and can recommend a saddle or store?

I have an aussie saddle (I opted for the one with the horn) for trail riding and I really like it. I actually bought mine as a package from Horse.com but it was made by Down Under Saddle Supply in Colorado: www.downunderweb.com I would highly recommend them as the saddle that I have is very lovely and well-made. Also, they can help you get the proper fit for your horse.

ETA: The Down Under saddle packages at horse.com are quite reasonably priced, but if you are on a budget you can sometimes find aussie saddles on craigslist too.

That is the web sight I was looking at, just not sure if I should get the wide and wanted to know about quality, I too want a horn, which package or saddle did you get if you don't mind sharing.

I hope this works because these pictures are from my FB account. These are pictures of my aussie saddle. I think I got the Kimberley Outback, but a few years ago when I got mine it wasn't as pricey as it is now.

I'd be very cautious about a $250.00 stock saddle (I'd actually be vary cautious about any $250 saddle, even average second hands ones don't seem to go this cheap).

I don't know why you need the horn? Australian saddles don't have one because they are used for roping and we don't really rope. I know a fair few people who consider horns on saddles dangerous. There is no need for a horn.

They're made for the Australian stock horse type which isn't as wide as a QH and have more prominent withers. I'd be looking at a wide gullet, and even then it might not fit. I've met a few people who can't fit stock saddles to their horse because they're too wide.

I opted for the horn because it just gives me an extra feeling of security, knowing that if something crazy were to happen I'd have that to grab. It actually did help save my butt once.

They can tell you how to do a wither tracing and help you select the right sized tree. They can also custom size the tree to fit your horse if he's inbetween sizes.

I would not trust any of the Aussie saddles on Craigslist, or the cheapos on eBat. All of the ones I have seen were no-name Asian junk. At least with DownUnder's cheap saddles, you know the tree is quality and they inspect the workmanship before sending it to you.
