Neoprene poll protector...

My new beta biothane bridle rubbed a really nasty sore on my mare's poll the first time I ever used it.

Do you think the neoprene poll protector will help, or will I need something softer/cushier?

Is it the wrong size or moving around on her head a lot to cause the sore?

It fits perfectly, actually. It's one of these: http://www.mossrockendurance.com/ima...Bridle_Red.jpg

It's an Arab size, and she wears a cob-sized halter. I'm not really sure if it was moving around a lot... but I wouldn't think it would be loose enough.

Is it possible there was some sand or something stuck underneath it? I mean, I've used a LOT of different headstalls on this horse and I've never, ever had her get a sore. Is it normal for poll sores to be on only one side?

In all honesty, I have never had a horse get a poll sore LOL. I wonder if maybe she had an irritated spot there already from a bug bite or something and the bridle just aggravated it.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. When I first saw it, I didn't automatically assume it was from the bridle (because I've never seen it either), but my BO said she thought it was too much of a coincidence. It scabbed up already... I rode her in a leather headstall today and it looked fine when I got back. Oh well, I went ahead and got the poll protector. It can't hurt.
