I have had an IRH for about a year and a half now I guess. I love it, first helmet I've owned that didn't make me look like a total bobble-head. I had a Troxel before that and hated it, it never fit quite right. The helmet you get will depend on the shape of your head though too. I went to the tack store after doing internet research set on getting a Charles Owen but I tried them on and it just didn't fit the shape of my head. Meanwhile my sister and our instructor love their CO's to death. For local showing, my black IRH, cleaned up, does just fine without any kind of cover.

ETA: if I didn't show, I would totally be into a Tipperary Sportage...they're just so cool looking, and I love all the vents.

Another vote for the Tipperary Sportage. Love mine.

I love my ovation.

The troxel just seemed too round.

I also looked at the Tippary's at the local saddle shop but for me it wasn't as comfortable the way it comes down a bit more in the back (at least the ones I tried on)

I have used my sisters' IRH's before and they were super comfortable but I just wanted an inexpensive trail riding helmet so didn't need to spend the money for the IRH that the saddle place had.

IRH trail ultra light is a good basic helmet in the $50 area

I recently just purchased they're new Baltimore Helmet that was released by Horze.com. It's a Pegasus brand helmet, and its the best thing EVER for the summer. I swear, it's the lightest helmet I've ever ridden in and it is so well ventilated, it's perfect for those hot and humid days and long trail rides. Plus, at $59 it's a great price for a "first helmet" or any at that.

For a summer light weight helmet you'd think they would make it in a color other than black.

I have to recommend the Tipperary Sportage as well. It's awesome!
