Online Saddle Shopping for Draft horses?

I am trying to find a saddle to fit my 17hh belgian cross. He is pretty wide, with a thick spine and big shoulders but I can't seem to find a saddle that fits him with a seat that fits me in our area. I'm hesitant to buy something online but it's looking like my best option other than a customized saddle. I am looking at western or AP saddles (one day I will have both so whatever comes first is fine!) but I worry about getting one that won't properly fit him.... I love the HR Wade's, otherwise I am looking for something with a medium to deep seat.

Does anyone have experience ordering saddles online, if so what sites?

Any tips are appreciated!

Thanks :)

I would suggest looking at dressage saddles. I ride my full drafts and dressage saddles tend to have wider tree options off the shelf. Not uncommon to find 35 or 36 cm trees or wide and extra wide. I'm a firm believer in paying for a quality saddle or going high end used. If someone invested in a $3000 saddle, they babied it, had it reflocked, cleaned it... and were probably good riders so things aren't "off". I have never owned a synthetic saddle so can't comment on them. I like the feel of a little longer leg on a big barreled horse that you get with a dressage saddle over an AP saddle .
I have a very old 32 cm Stubben Sigfreid that fits young full percherons and my round adult 1/2s well. I also ride the 1/2s in FQH slick fork. I did have a FQH Wade but sold it with a horse. Fit them but not me.

I do see lots of dressage saddles that would probably fit, however I want an AP so I can do a bit of jumping mixed into trail riding. I am willing to spend the money to get a good saddle, my gelding is 10 now so a custom fit saddle will last us a long time. I just hesitate to order saddles online without hearing any reviews.

Thanks!

Facebook tack or draft groups are your best bet. A lot of sellers will include a trial as long as payment is made up front through Paypal.. I've purchased a couple of eBay as well, but my most recent was off FB. On FB, you can also post an ISO and list exactly what you're looking for.
