ordering from the UK?

I already posted this as a reply to my vest topic in the English Riding forum, but I figured I might have a better chance at getting responses if I posted my question in its own topic here.

I've decided to purchase an Airowear Outlyne vest to use for Cross Country. At U.S. Retailers, I've found the vests for around $300 & the optional shoulder pads for around an additional $100. I've only seen them offered in black.

However, I did a google search last night & found the same vest in Navy (one of my xc colours) from a UK site for $155.92 for the vest, $67 for the shoulder pads, & $48.36 for shipping ($271.28 total). I originally wasn't going to order the shoulder pads, since that'd take my grand total to about $400 for the vest, but since they really DO make the vest safer, & I'd be paying less money to get the vest AND the pads if I ordered from this UK site, it just seems like a great deal.

So here's my question: Has anyone ever ordered stuff from the UK & had it shipped to the U.S. Before? Would I have to pay import taxes, & if so, do you think I'd be better off just buying from an American retailer? It seems like such a good deal, I'm just afraid import fees would ruin that.

I ordered other stuff (not vest) from UK and always just paid shipping. No special tax or issues with the custom.

Okay, thanks. I posted on another forum too, & someone on there said the same thing. I just went ahead & ordered the vest. I'm really excited about finding it for such a good deal =)
