Exclamation Patch/Repair hole in suede knee roll...!

Hi I have a saddle with a large (1") hole in the suede knee roll. I don't want to replace the whole thing. The guy at the tack shop said to just glue a piece of suede over it.... Not sure about that and I don't want it to be toooo ugly... anyways, has anyone ever patched a knee roll? Or had experience with it? Should I put the patch over the top or try underneath? Glue or stitch? Thanks for your help!

A lot of how you fix this is going to depend on what your saddle is worth, what you want to do with it and how much you're willing to pay to repair it. Personally, I wouldn't glue or stitch a random patch to my saddle unless my saddle was pretty much already on its last bit of life and was never going to see the inside of a show ring, etc.

If your saddle is in otherwise decent condition and you still plan on using it for several years, I would take it to a professional tack repair store or a leather repair store and have it assessed and repaired professionally.

The saddle is pretty old as it is. Its DEF not a show saddle and is on its last leg but I would at least prefer it not have a hole in it....
