Pelham help??

My mare is ridden in a butterfly pelham and has been happily for a number of years. Before I got her she was ridden in a grackle noseband but she never came with it when I picked her up. I asked about it but someone disagreed with her wearing it. But now that her jaw locking is becoming more of an issue, many people are saying I should..whats you guys opinions? Should grackle nosebands be used with a butterfly pelham?
