Smile Personalized halters... which one???

I'm going to get my mare a personalized halter soon and as soon as my filly gets into a horse size I will be getting her one too. I just don't know if I want leather with their registered name and barn name under it or a monogrammed nylon one. If I get a nylon one I was thinking about reversing the colors. For example for my mare the halter would be turqoise with hot pink overlay and what ever color for the name that would stand out. For the filly it would be a hot pink halter and turqoise overlay and then what ever color for the name that would stand out.

My filly will be my all around show horse and my mare was a barrel horse that i'm slowing done and riding around my house and a rare halter show every now and then.

I could really use some opinions. Please

I personally prefer leather with the name plates.

I've seen the monogrammed nylon halters get stiff pretty quickly, as they're very thick. If leather gets stiff, just give it a little condition, and it's good to go.

However, you do have the colored options with nylon..
It's up to your preference really.. I feel leather will last the longest though.

Thanks for the suggestion. I went with a nylon though. It's baby blue with black overlay and neon green stitching. I hope it looks ok. I almost went with a leather but I couldn't find any I truley liked that didn't cost $100+. I don't like the adjustable nose or throat snap. I think it makes it look kind of tacky/bulky. But I was able to find a nylon with out them. I can't wait till it comes in!

Hi - if you're going to use them on a regular basis, I think the nylon was probably the best choice. Most people (realistically) just don't have the time to really maintain a leather halter properly. Halters take a lot of abuse, Nylon typically takes it better.

Post pics when you get it.

That's another reason I went with nylon. I do have the time to clean a leather halter, I just would rather not. And at the place my filly will be started/trained at they don't really clean their stuff like at all. There's spider webs on the saddles I use... thankfullf that's the ONLY "bad" thing about them. And when they turn her out the halter will be hung on the gate so I don't want the leather getting rained on or out in the sun etc.

The horse I just bought (which I am absolutely in love with and would die without ) came with a personalised halter. I'm not entirely sure what its made out of. It is some kind of soft plastic which looks like leather from a distance. The name plate is some kind of metal (good thing I know horses better than I do materials)

Hmmm. I've cleaned my leather halter maybe once or twice when I first got it, and I've had it at least three years now with regular use. Ovation. $80 or so.. Never really gets cleaned, except for the buckles where dirt gets trapped.

Let me know how your nylon holds up. I would love a turquoise one on my boy if they're good.
