Philippe Fontaine VS Beval

Hey everyone! I went to the best tack store EVER yesterday! Well worth the hour and a half drive. I thought I died when I walked into the saddle section.

The first saddle I REALLY liked was the Beval Salem. The leather seemed reaaally nice, and the seat was grippy and SUPER comfortable. On the website the leather seems super light, but in person it's darker and more of a golden color.

My friend who just bought a horse two days ago was looking at the Philippe Fontaine saddles, and we both sat in the Danielle version. That saddle was not as grippy, but also super comfortable! The two price points on these saddles are quite similar.

I like both saddles a lot. I don't have my own horse yet, but may be leasing a horse in the near future and probably won't get the saddle until then. That tack store has a 4 day trial policy, so I can always try out the saddles. Which one do you guys like better? I liked both of these saddles better then the pessoas, barnsby's, and other "higher end" saddles in the store. I'd rather buy something that's comfortable for 7 or 8 years than uncomfortable for 15. I'll probably upgrade in a few years when I actually purchase my own horse, but for now, I'm deciding between these two. Thanks!

I wish I could help you - I have neither saddles nor tried either saddles.

Your best bet, is to contact a Professional Saddle Maker/Fitter to come out to the barn where you are leasing this horse, and to ensure either saddle is the right fit for this horse.

You can spend hours sitting in a saddle and ensuring that it is accomodating you - but, you need to put the horse into consideration as well. I personally, wont let anyone use "their" saddle when they are using my horse, because my saddle FITS my horse.

You need to find a sadde that works for both you and the horse you are leasing - and a saddle that AIDS you, not hinders you and AIDS this person's, not hinders him/her.

Phillipe Fontaine's are a Stubben made saddle. They are made in the Stubben Factory along side all the other saddles that are made by the company. There is 1 rider at my barn who has the saddle, and she loves it.

I cannot help you in your search - but if you contact a Saddle Maker/Fitter, they will come out to your barn *at least mine does* with a van full of saddles and tools to ensure that whatever sadde is chosen out of the lot, is the right one for both horse and rider.

All the best in your saddle search.
