I wear a size 16 to 18 and smoothstride trail rider pants fit me perfectly.
I have three pair of Smooth Stride pants and do love them, but they have taken their manufacturing overseas now. The fabrics are all different, the good suede is gone, and the bigger plus sizes are gone. I am a size 22/24 and the "XL" use to fit me great! They are even a tad roomy. However, her current sizes only go to a size 18/20.

Dragon: They're not cheap, but Irideon makes some very nice winter pants. You would probably fit in their XL size. They do make plus sizes in 1x-3x, but at a 36, the regular XL would probably be just fine.

Also, I buy thermal tights from Academy Sports and have really had good luck with them this year. They're cheap too, only about $15 a pair for the smooth/soft type. The waffle type material doesn't work under breeches very well, lol.

Have you tried TuffRider? I wear their Larges comfortably, and Dover has them on sale right now for $39.99.

It's odd that you're a 36 in a breech, but 12 in pants....there has to be something funky with the specific brand you were trying on. I'm a 33/34 in in breeches, sometimes 32 depending on the brand, and I wear a 13/14 pant. 14 are too big on me, where they slide down my butt when I walk - but 12 is a bit too snug.

I like the TuffRiders.

In "normal" clothes I wear a L or XL.

I went through and tried on all my breeches again. In Tuff Rider I could probably go down a size to 34, they were a little lose, and the crotch part was like a mile below where it should be.

In my full seat Devon Aires I for sure need a 36.
