Polos, SMB boots, splint boots..what's the best?

I just bought a 4 pack of pros choice elite SMB boots. They seem really nice. I also have splint boots, and 2 sets of polos. I read soo many different opinions on which is the best for what, and what they're used for and stuff. It's so confusing! I got SMBS because I really like everything about them, and my horse interferes a bit. I hear they cause overheating, even though on the package it talks about its ventech and breathability. I know that if polos are wrapped improperly they can cause tendon damage. Do splint boots even protect well? What are their pros and cons? I'd like to know which is best for flat work and jumping and trailering and so on. What are your personal opinions?

"Subbing" means subscribing to a thread ;) I have no input on the topic, but I'm interested in what others have to say.
