Ok, so am looking for a new trail saddle. I want a synthetic because of the light-weight qualities they have. Came across this on craigslist, and I like the look of it...but I don't need the pad and breastcollar she's trying to sell with it.

The saddle retails new for $287 without the pad and breastcollar. Although used, this saddle is in great shape.

She is asking $290 for it...what would be a fair (though not insulting) offer to make? I was thinking about $225...is that too low?

thanks!

I am usually just bluntly honest when it comes to offers. I'd just call (I think its always better to talk rather than e-mail, face to face is even better) and say. "well, I don't really need the pad or collar but I am interested in the saddle. Would you take 200 for the saddle? Oh... You want to sell it all...ok.. What's Your bottom dollar then? " That's how I usually go about it. Then if its still too high I ask what the "good guy discount" is and flash my best take pity on me i'm poor but cute smile and go from there. Good Luck! It looks to be well taken care of.

The good thing for you is that it's a wintec and that means there are loads of them around making it more difficult for this person to sell it. I think you should go ahead and make the offer. The worst they can say is no. I would look around some more tho. I'm sure you can find a much better deal. Have you tried eBay?

Oh, boy, she asks WAY too much! Horse.com have it for $289 new + free shipping + one can get 10% off. $200 is the best price for it.

Is there any chance you can TRY the saddle on your horse before giving money? Wintec didn't fit my qh well (and actually wasn't great on my paint either).

and what does one have to do to get 10% off?? 8)
:) You can just subscribe to their website (give your email), and they usually send out 10% off coupon valid for 7 days once or twice a month. 10% off goes for everything excluding dewormers, so I usually wait for those coupons and then place the order. Lol!

she may want to get money now nd be ready to sell! Be be scared to offer lower you never no worse case senario she says no thanks. I just had a guy offer me 200.00 for a brand new barrel saddle I have listed on Craiglist for 600. I did say make me an offer. I just said no thanks.

This topic is so old that original poster probably got one while back!

On side note I was selling my wintec 500 A/P with changeable gullets last Fall (when I got a different saddle). It was practically new (used just 3 or 4 times on walk in ring for half-hour and didn't show ANY sign of being used) and I included gullet kit, girth, wintec leathers, and stirrups (because my new saddle was different color so they didn't match). Priced at $360 (all this package goes for ~$500 at least in store). Actually sold it very first day at the local forum and shipped to the lady 2 days later. Week later got an offer from craiglist (I forgot to remove the ad) for $150. And it sounded like the person gave me a favor with this price. Huh! I'd rather keep it for myself as 2nd saddle!!
