I feel very strongly that the pad was likely not the cause of the horse being sore in the said story. There are multiple things that can cause a horse to go sore, including excessive work or competition. Just because the pad was used during competition, does not mean it was the sole cause of soreness; that being said, the fact that he was given a couple days rest after the competition and then ridden again (and not showing signs of soreness), further convinces me that it was not related to the pad, but rather the competition and recovery time given. A poor fitting saddle-regardless of the pad underneath it-will make a horse sore as well.
In my opinion, with years of experience using these products (Air Ride specifically, I have not had a reason to use the OrthoSport pad).. I do not see any reason you should worry about soreness simply by changing a saddle pad. This is a high quality brand with lots of technology behind the design.
